Making a Difference

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” ~Anne Frank      April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month.  It also encompasses National Volunteer Week, April 12 – 18, 2015.  President Richard Nixon established National Volunteer Week with an executive order in 1974, and every sitting U.S. president since Nixon has issued a proclamation during National Volunteer Week, urging Americans to give their time to community outreach organizations.       I have always felt volunteering was important.  My mother worked full time, raised 5 children between the ages of 1 and 9 by herself when my father passed away and still found time to volunteer with a number of meaningful organizations.  When she passed away two years ago the most important thing to me was seeing so many people from those organizations at her memorial.  She made a difference! My brothers, sister and I still try to emulate her values and volunteer as much as we can. The reason I bring this up is two-fold.  First, we have many volunteers here at Country Meadows who we are very grateful for.  Our Life Enrichment Directors, Linda and Holly have been challenged with […]

Happy New Year!

Country Meadows knows how to bring in the New Year. In fact, New York City has nothing on us. We drop our crystal ball right at midnight New York time (9:00 pm our time) every year. We sing Auld Lang Sine, pop party poppers, blow party horns, and toast in the New Year with great enthusiasm. While waiting for the big moment to arrive, we listen to great music, drink champagne and sparkling cider, eat appetizers created by our executive chef Linda Cox, and feel the camaraderie among our friends and neighbors here at Country Meadows Village. If you missed the fun and festivities this year, make sure you join us while ushering in the next. It’s sure to be a blast! Wishing you a happy and healthy 2015, Linda Robinson Life Enrichment Director at Country Meadows Village

Safety Tips for the Winter Season

The seasons fly by so quickly it is hard to keep up with the necessary ways to keep safe under the uncertain conditions that comes with winter.  Here are some things to remember in preparing for the cold and rain. For home safety, it is a good practice to repair handrails both inside your home and outside around your porches. Having a handrail on both sides of a stairway and all the way to the end of the stairs is best, rather than on just one side. Make sure your home is well lit inside and outside to help you and your guests avoid falling. Have a multipurpose fire extinguisher in a handy and convenient location in both the kitchen and the garage, practice how to use it, and check to see if it is working once a year. Keep dry and warm by wearing hats, gloves and non-skid shoes or boots. To avoid injuries, ask for help and don’t take unnecessary risks. Can your street address be seen from the street at night? Check to see if your address is well lit In the event emergency personnel need to find your home at night. Gas stoves, lanterns, and fireplaces […]

A Halloween Story Written by our Residents

Once Upon  A Halloween Night Written by the Residents at Country Meadows Village – Courtside On a cold Halloween night, there was a man that had one leg, 4 eyes, and no nose! The man chose to stay in his home and keep away from others most nights. He decided to slip out that night, hoping to make a friend. While walking through town, he met a group of women. When the women saw him, they shrieked in fear and reached for their pepper spray! The man calmly said “I come in peace, in search of a friend.” One of the women stepped out from the group to take a closer look. What she saw was a scary, disfigured, and unfamiliar face on the outside. It was then she reminded herself he could have a kind, friendly heart on the inside.  “Why don’t you join us for some hot cocoa?” The woman asked. Her friends were appalled! The man was so shocked by her response. “I’d love that! You aren’t too scared of me?” ”No one can scare me away from hot cocoa!” The woman joked. The scary man introduced himself, “Hi, I’m Oscar.” “Nice to meet you, Oscar. My name is […]
